What
is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is
a state of relaxation and concentration, with enhanced awareness.
Time seems to pass quickly. This can naturally occur when absorbed
in a good book, driving on familiar roads, or when day-dreaming…
In hypnosis you just feel beautifully relaxed. We don't use swinging
watches or flowing gowns, only a reassuring manner to induce hypnosis.
Are there some people
who cannot be hypnotised?
No, except the
mentally handicapped, or those heavily under the influence of drugs
or alcohol. Of course, the depth varies from person to person but
hypnotherapy does not require ‘deep’ hypnosis to achieve
benefits.
Are drugs or tablets
used?
No.
Will I be aware of
what is happening?
Absolutely!
Most people are surprised to remember every detail that happened
during their time in hypnosis. There is no such thing as a ‘hypnotised
feeling’, only a sense of deep relaxation and calm.
So I’m not asleep?
No, simply very
relaxed. If you hear of any danger you would immediately act.
Is there any cause
for concern?
None whatsoever.
We can all enter self-hypnosis with a little training. In hypnotherapy,
the hypnotherapist is just a facilitator. He works with you for
your benefit.
Can I speak during
hypnosis?
Yes indeed -
and in hypnoanalysis you will be encouraged to do so.
How many visits/sessions
will I need?
Relatively simple
problems, such as smoking, nail biting, slimming, pre-test nerves,
usually only require a single session and the success rate is very
high. More ‘deep-rooted’ problems require ‘analytical’
therapy - typically eight sessions at weekly intervals.
Can I be influenced
to do anything against my will or nature?
No, in fact
you would be shocked out of the hypnotic state should such a thing
happen. All International Association of Hypo-analysts (IAH) therapist
members adhere to a strict Code of Professional Practice.
Can ‘normal’
people be hypnoanalysed?
Not only can
they be, but should be - as an insight into yourself it has no equal.
Can you help with
medical problems?
If you think
your problem may be medical in any way, it is essential that you
consult your General Practitioner (GP) or other registered medical
doctor. We are therapists and not qualified to advise on medication,
diagnose disease, or comment on medical issues.
Why is it that some
therapists take five or six sessions for stop smoking and you only
take one?
There are many
reasons why therapists take a different number of sessions to treat
particular conditions. These include: training, experience, their
approach to the issue, and so on. Our belief is that therapy should
be conducted as easily and quickly as possible. We always put the
interest of the client first.
What is the top Hypnotherapy
organisation in the UK?
There
isn’t one. In the UK, no hypnotherapy organisation has precedence
over any other. The largest training school in the UK is the IAPH,
which was established in 1984. Unlike many organisations, each IAPH
member agrees to a programme of advanced post-qualification training
each year.
